The weekend of 18-19 June 2022 brought a team of 20 Volunteers together to give the Goorambat Veterans Retreat a bit of a tidy-up and a new look exterior. Under the supervision of Builder & supporter Peter Clarke, the team got busy removing the crusty old weatherboards out front and replaced the old front door with a great new verandah and entry, all ready for the addition of an all-abilities access ramp in a few weeks time. Others rolled up their sleeves and tidied up the two years of 'stuff' that had accumulated around the renovation project, utility trenches were dug and we even installed a new picnic table. There are so many people to thank, not forgetting those silent warriors that have been making discreet financial donations to assist with the purchase of the materials used in the project. It's a credit to them all.
With some fine weather behind us, we got stuck into it and after a day or three of hard yakka, the evenings saw some great camaraderie over a meal at our Goorambat Railway Hotel on Friday night, followed by some wicked meals catered by our very own Jo Thomson (AKA The Diggers Wife). A sit around the fire in the evening while enjoying those great southern stars and spinning a few yarns, saw yet another chapter of this amazing project written.
